Sinaia
![]() The next stop on our trip was to the beautiful mountain resort town of Sinaia.
![]() Here we attended the annual district conference. At the conference as well as at all Rotary meetings we each gave a five minute sideshow presentation about ourselves and our home Rotary Districts. We all had our own individual style. I gave mine in as much Romanian as I could remember combined with English when necessary. With each presentation my Romanian got better until I finally gave the whole thing in Romanian, with several mistakes of course.

.Of course we had more great dinners.
With many new friends
![]() ![]() We were lucky enough to be hooked up with Maria who took great care of us in two different cities.

![]() We were the life of the party!!
![]() There was more great entertainment.
![]() ![]() and dancing
![]() Jun, Kathleen and Monet dancing with Dr. Anna. Dr Anna was the team leader of the Romanian Exchange team who came to California before we went to Romania.
![]() During the day we visited some great places near Sinaia including the village of Busteni to see the Bucegi Mountains (Carpathian Mountains). We took this gondola, the Babele Telecabini, to the top of the mountain where we had lunch and hot spiced wine. It was really a great day due to our guides Calin and Iona.
![]() Calin is a local guide for the Sinaia area and can be reached by email if you plan a visit to Romania.
![]() Iona and her boyfriend. Iona along with four others came to California as our Romanian counterparts in the GSE program. While here they had a similar experience to our group in district 5220 visiting San Francisco, the Modesto area, Yosemite, Oakhurst and Mariposa. We all met at the 5220 District Conference in Monterey California before we left for Romania.
![]() At the top of the gondola we visited Bucegi Natural Park to visit the Babele Rocks which are a National Landmark at nearly seven thousand feet above sea level. Aside from the Rocks there is great skiing, scenery and hiking in the Carpathian Mountains. If you plan a visit to Romania don't miss Sinaia and the mountains.
![]() Top of the mountain. Well actually not the top. there was another gondola which went higher than our final stop. You can see the tower in the background of this photo.

![]() Hot spiced wine time.
![]() We also visited the neo Renisance style Peles Castle which served as the summer residence of King Carol I. Construction was begun in 1873 and completed in 1883. King Carol was also also burried here

![]() The last night we went out and partied a little with some new friends.
![]() As you know the Romanians take their dancing seriously so who are we to argue. When in Rome do as the Romans do.
![]() ![]() ![]() But of course in the end we all had a great time and really loved Sinaia!
