Our Romanian Roadtrip
After the wedding I went on a roadtrip with Wioletta Cwiertniak. Wioletta is from Wroclaw, Poland and met me in Bucharest for the wedding. We rented a car and hit the road to see some of the great places I had visited during my trip to Romania in 2005. These places included Brasov, Bran Castle (or Dracula's Castle) Peles Castle, Rasnov Castle, Sighisoara and Sinaia all of which are located in or near Transylvania, Romania.

![]() We took this gondola, the Babele Telecabini to the top of the Bucegi Mountains which are actually a southern section of the Carpathian Mountains.
![]() ![]() Photos from the gondola
![]() These rocks are known as Babele, a protected national monument.
![]() ![]() It was a little cold.
![]() ![]() The Babele Telecabini can be reached from the mountain resort town of Sinaia.
Peles Castle
![]() The Peles Castle built in 1875 by King Carol I

![]() ![]() Photos of the town center from the top of the hill near the Brasov sign, there's also a gondola here and a nice trail to hike back down.
![]() ![]() ![]() The Orthodox Church Sfantul Nicolae which is outside the original city walls and the site of the first Romanian school in Brasov.

![]() Rasnov Castle
![]() Rasnov Castle near Brasov was built to protect a mountain pass from Turkish invaders.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Prince Vlad Tepes is everywhere but then again this is Transylvania.
Castle Bran
![]() Castle Bran, known as Dracula's Castle. Count Dracula or Prince Vlad Tepes, never actually lived here but it was an important strategic fortress in his time and it is very likely that he did stay here while traveling in the area.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Castle Dracula in all it's glory.
![]() Sighisoara
![]() Yes that is Prince Vlad once again he was born in Sighisoara
![]() ![]() ![]() He actually lived in this house in Sighisoara and it is likely that he was born here as the sign on the wall indicates. Wioletta and I had lunch here.
![]() ![]() ![]() This little outside cafe has it's tables placed in between the flying butresses of an old gothic church which doesn't exist anymore.
![]() ![]() ![]() This village (I forgot the name of it) as well as the church and tower in the next photos were used as the set in the movie "The Dark is Rising, The Seeker", released in October 2007. Notice the top of the left chimney. I Didn't notice it until I actually took the photo but we did think this village looked a little out of place even the cross and pedestal are fake.
![]() The tower is real
![]() So is the church
![]() I realized these crosses were all fake when I gently kicked one and it moved about six inches (styrofoam). I missed my chance to see the movie while it was in the theatres but will get it as soon as it comes out on DVD. They also used Bucharest as a filming location and Cameron was even given a part in the movie, playing himself, a professor.
![]() ![]() The end of a great roadtrip
