Bucharest

Downtown Bucharest
Ceausescu's idea was to creat a Bucharest which would be the Paris of the east with it's grand boulevards and wide streets. Well it's not exactly that but I did enjoy this city.

Men in Black on the way to our last Rotary meeting before we go back home.

The square in front of our apartment. We had a great place to stay in a centraly located, quiet apartment. The price is about $60.00 a night and the apartment had two rooms so it's perfect for two people.

The world's second largest building "The Palace of Parliament" erected by the dictator Causescu

Inside the palace

Inside looking out

This is quite interesting. This old Orthodox Church was damaged in the revolution which deposed Ceausescu. But instead of restoring it or tearing it down they decided to put a new building inside the shell of the old.

Dinner at "The Count Dracula Club". I definitely reccomend trying it. The food and wine were both good and cheap.

The man himself.

This is one of the best restaurants in Bucharest  a definite must see in the old quarter and not expensive by western standards.

During my second trip to Bucharest I stayed at the Villa Helga Hostel. Villa Helga is another great hostel and I made lots of new friends there.
If you make it there in the next 2 months say hi to all the great Dutch uni. students staying there for their internship.

It's really a great looking room.

The proud owner himself, don't tell anyone but he kept feeding us pelinca or tuica shots off the tab all night.
Not sure how to spell the name of that Romanian specialty alcohol but be careful!

Of course in the end I had a great time!!!
